When Data Becomes a Memento

What happens with your digital data after you die? The simple data handling procedure «Final Backup» enables relatives to preserve the digital legacy of the deceased, or delete it permanently. This process clears electronic devices of their digital legacy so they can then be returned to the material cycle.

«The highly relevant and topical issue of how we could, or should, handle our digital legacy is staged in an exhibition space, using artifacts and intelligently formed questions. Visitors are confronted with their mortality and the fact that most of the ‹traces› we leave behind are no longer analog but digital. These still require energy and resources, even when we are gone.» – Excerpt supporting statement of the Subject Area Industrial Design
