Different opinions, different values – co-existence is a big challenge in today’s society. In the three-part documentary web series «Gegenwelten» («Counterworlds»), each episode confronts two people from Generation Z with their differences and similarities regarding sexuality, religion and equality.
In «Counterworlds» Elay Leuthold has created a fully-rounded YouTube format which is convincing in its design implementation and inclusion of communities. Through intense «bubble diving» the author has found interesting protagonists from Generation Z, and without any unnecessary polemics, given them a carefully designed space for mutual encounter – thereby inspiring his audience in an entertaining way. It is impressive that he has largely accomplished this project on his own (including direction, camera, sound etc.). An important contribution to the topic, this work shows how we can engage again in conversation beyond our respective bubbles. – Excerpt from the supporting statement of the Subject Area Cast/Audiovisual Media
«In future, I would like to continue building bridges between entertainment and information through audiovisual media.» – Elay Leuthold
«‹Gegenwelten› provides a space for Generation Z to enter into a respectful dialogue on equal terms. First and foremost, it is about listening to another person and jointly finding ways to articulate conflicts and differences and negotiate them.» – Elay Leuthold
