Changing Matters

«Changing Matters» explores how the camera, when used as an input device, can generate novel mechanics and interactions. The game immerses the player in an abstract but colourful world, where the avatar is controlled solely through body movements. Crouch down, run around and hop to merge with the environment – and create constant change.

Interview Lorenz Kleiser.

«Lorenz’s project is highly innovative in terms of its design and use of technology, and executed at the highest level. It is a rare case of accomplishing a distinct renewal and extension of complex technologies, while at the same time making this achievement immediately usable for design – with absolutely stunning results. Lorenz demonstrates how new game mechanics and interactions can be generated using AI-controlled cameras as input devices. With this work, Lorenz has clearly and significantly expanded the range of design-related, interactive and narrative forms of expression which are available to game designers.» – Excerpt from the supporting statement of the Subject Area Game Design

During his course at the ZHdK, Lorenz Kleiser always tried to cross the disciplinary boundaries of games by experimenting with different input methods and alternative controllers. He continually iterates and develops his work from small mechanics to the big idea. Based on his background in computer science, he specializes in programming and technical art. His aim is to work as part of a small indie studio and be inspired by people from all over the world.
