Since becoming the subject of economic and social debate, sleep has had no respite. Whether it is glorified as a post-materialistic luxury item, praised as an efficiency booster or derided as just a waste of time – «print my sleep» translates the unconscious into dysfunctional objects.
Rafael Cordero tracked his sleep and used data such as heart rate, duration and phases of sleep, which he then transformed into 3D-printed ceramic sculptures. The combination of the elementary topic of sleep with the familiar material of ceramics and state-of-the-art technology is what makes this project so intriguing. Phases of our lives which are outside of our conscious experience thus become visible in fascinating objects.
